Flatlay Truths

Untitled
Elle Australia Sept 14

You see pictures like this on Instagram almost every day & I've sometimes pondered who on earth simultaneously has available to them fresh blooms, a magazine editorial - preferably hot off the press, a plain white background AND not to mention some daylight to spare.

Well folks, the stars aligned.  My mumma had a birthday & received roses from PX (that's right, where are mine I ask), my kind brother subscribed me to Elle Australia for my birthday, T bought me this white board from Bunnings for exactly this purpose, AND most importantly I've become a shift worker who has plenty of daylight to spare.

The things bloggers never tell you...

Sunday: A Photo Diary

Sunday is my favourite day by far.  It has always been (and always will be) a day to stay home and eat/play/relax (eat pray love? ha) with family without the pressure of checking off a task list, which seems to be the aim of most other days.

I'm working all of next Sunday so I thought I'd immortalise yesterday with a few snaps to look back on.  No point only taking photos of special occasions when days like these are the far more worthy.

J brand jeans
Country Road shoes
Rib & Hull bag
Saba stripes

As I said, there's no point trying to avoid stripes.  They're as inevitable as denim.
After wearing this same top for too many days in a row, I decided to top it off by wearing it just one more time for a travel planning escapade with PX.  We're off overseas in a month or so and so far we have only booked flights.  Eek!  Better stop blogging and get a move along.

Inspiration: Fresh Stripes

There is truly no point in attempting cold turkey on stripes.  Everyone would know that's a lost cause.  You can, however, freshen up stripes by choosing an alternate colour like equally-as-chic red & white.

A few weeks ago, whilst shopping in an extreme bad mood (strongly unadvisable if you're saving pennies), I picked up this tshirt from Zimmerman and am waiting for some warm Spring days to debut it.  Perhaps red stripe and floral... red stripe and distressed blue denim... red stripe and white jeans...

Oh the possibilities.

I'm enjoying a lazy Saturday before the onslaught of the next term starts (7am ward rounds - what??).  Here's to the glorious sunshine today!

Outfit: Treats

Trenery jumper
Country Road bag
Banana Republic trousers
Bloch shoes

Yesterday was my birthday, so I put on my happy pants and went to work!  Then (with a few months of deliberation in check), I hightailed it to the C store and offloaded some savings.

Doesn't it feel awesome when you work hard for your treats?

Outfit: A Peep of Leopard

How else to spice up a simple outfit than a hint of leopard and a crazy 'do...

Winter in Perth is a strange beast.  The mornings are crisply cold beyond belief, yet the sun in the middle of the day is so warm that it's basically Summer.  Is it just me or does that equal outfit crisis?  Alright, possibly a little melodramatic, but it does mean that you're best with a few thin layers like jeans and light silk shirt (in a fancy print for bonus points), with warm woolies over the top.  Carry a massive leather bag to cart around what you remove.

Top tip: Avoid complex hair-scarf relations by wearing Heidi braids!

We live in a beautiful state that gives us the most divine Winter weather.  T & I are both loyal Perthies through and through, and it is Augusts like these that make you think by golly we have it good!

Outfit: Leather Trouser

Boooo, I'm going back to work today after a glorious week off doing next to nothing apart from my tax & hitting up Second Time Around with S, where we totally scored on the bargain front.  I got these leather track pants at a piddly fraction of what they'd usually cost to the not-so-thrifty trend slave, and here you can see them fitting perfectly into my weekend garb - termed "the little schlump" (because really, that is what you end up looking like when you're under 6 foot and choose to embrace the boyfriend jean/track pant silhouette).  Oh and S got some Carla Zampatti action for the wedding...  Yes - we found the dream dress for my maid of honour!  But no hints on what it looks like - you can all just wait for another 6 months.
