Girl-Crush: Miso Ruice

It's not too often I get a proper girl-crush happening, but here's one of those cases.  Miso Ruice - a Taiwanese model who had a bit of time on Lookbook.nu (until I think she deleted her account) to tempt the masses with her mysterious Asian looks and sleek styling.

If only I was 6-foot tall and my calves were less 'sporty', I would get my hands on these leather pants and wear them to death like her.  Although, I am very keen on breaking out the (faux) fur this winter, and I am hankering for some liberal use of black clothing.

Watch this space.

Tropical

Dad bought me this skirt from Zara.  It has quite the Summery-vibe, and will definitely be worn to death over the upcoming year.

Feeling Blue

Finally this week it became cold enough to don my recently purchased vintage Lisa Ho jacket from lovely Ally (The Vintage Valley) for a breakfast girl-date by the beach.  It is my new favourite & adds something interesting to my usual jeans+silk shirt+wedges combination.

Perfecting my Pastels

Any self-respecting 3.1 Phillip Lim-lover knows that picture from his Spring collections. And you've probably been trying to replicate his sweet pastels since then.

These Ginger & Smart pants would make my attempts a leeeeedle bit easier by injecting some much-needed light purple into my wardrobe that has recently overdosed on mint green. [medical words on a fashion blog, oh me oh my]

Ginger & Smart pants here

The Northern Hemisphere-ers would probably get even more use out of these now that Northern Spring has arrived. But down here we're pretty pumped for Winter :)

Coachella Street Style Inspiration: Sunglasses

So...  Is anyone else stuck in Oz jealous of how cool Coachella looked/sounded?  The constant Coachella -soaked feed from my Instagram made me want to be a part of it (despite the fact I really do despise music festivals in Perth).  I have a feeling it's because a fair few cool bloggers went along...  Not to mention a number of people seem rather dressed up for it!  What happened to the bum-showing shorts and bikini tops?

Coachella
"Coachella" collage by me.  Photos by Mark Iantosca

From last week's Refinery29 street style round-up of the first weekend of Coachella, there were many a fashionable lass spotted in the valley's greens.  Perfect for some street style-inspired sunglasses-spotting, seeing as I've decided my two staple pairs of RayBans just aren't going to cut it when Summer rears its ugly head again.  Of course, classic aviators make their appearance, as well as this year's continuing trend of round frames.

If the money-clouds decide to rain down on me, then the shortlist in the sunglasses-department includes these Miu Mius, or these Tom Ford babies.  Oh, and the Karen Walker Number Ones in black and green (although those might have already sold out by now...).  Seeing as I'm surprisingly not one of those people who sits on or constantly misplaces their shades, I reckon it'd be high time an investment purchase was made come next season.

Got any suggestions for sunglasses I should consider?

xx T

Gabriel Lage at PFW

Here's instalment two of my quick (under-equipped) photographic foray into this year's Perth Fashion Week.  Why only two shows you ask?  You can read yesterday's post to hear about it.

Slight annoyances aside, here's my shots from the Gabriel Lage show.  Models sashayed down the wide runway in stunning evening wear to the dulcet tones of French songstresses.  The long-sleeved red dress in the first photo was one of my early favourites.  Lace without too much skin on show is always a winner, although I do think the prize goes to that Lover Serpent dress which had a good combination of demure-on-top and interesting hemline.

Red and orange colours transitioned into more neutral tones of beige, cream and the odd black and blue with some dazzling beaded delights on show.  If Mr Lage had done without the first few coloured dresses, I would have been just as impressed with the detail and delicate work which he sent down the runway.  It's a pity there were so many empty seats, as a number of gowns garnered collective "oohs" and "wows" from the front row.  Perhaps the dozy post-lunch 3pm time-slot got the better of Perth's fashion set.

Can someone please tell me how to stop Flickr ruining photos with those crazy little dots in the previous two photos?

Anyway, feast your eyes on these flowing dresses.  The beadwork and the lightness of the fabric made the dresses look so ethereal.  Local talent, Gemma Bidstrup was also looking hot-to-trot in that fitted beaded number!  From here on, I reckon Mr Lage's work was just getting better and better.

Even more beads and lace for the grand finale - a fish-tailed bridal gown.  I think it must have been the top-knot and the veil, but it reminded me of a Spanish bride (like this).  On further fact-checking, Mr Lage's bio says he is influenced by his Grandfather and Father - both renowned Spanish Haute Couture tailors.  So that's where the meticulous attention to detail comes from.

Congratulations Mr Lage on a beautiful collection!

Again, you can check out the rest of the runway pictures on our Flickr.
And thanks again to Farrah for the spare tickets.

P.S. I'm thinking of doing a gear upgrade at some point in time...  Any Nikon lovers with good recommendations for new bodies or good lenses?  Ideally I'd like to be in better form for when the Perth Fashion Festival rolls around in September (although chances are, I'd have no money to fund a body upgrade by then).  Any feedback is welcome!

Hendrik Vermeulen at PFW

Thanks to the PR that Perth Fashion Week had, a whole lot of Perth bloggers (us included) were extremely peeved off last week when we all had our media accreditation rejected.  On the day that fashion week was supposed to start.  (talk about late notice!!)

Turns out, it was for the best, since S ended up going down to Dunsborough on the weekend for some R&R and I had a 12-hour hospital shift that couldn't be shifted.  But nevertheless, the extremely late noticed caused us a lot of angst just waiting for the yay or nay.  Let's just hope the first-year glitches get ironed out, since lending support to PFW is now no longer as high on the agenda as it should really have been...

Anyway, Farrah of DISTRIKMODE had some spare tickets for a couple of shows on Saturday, and I was in the mood to practice my shooting (as was Px - a link to his photos will be up soon).  Here are some photos from the 1pm show (which was really a 2:00pm show) we saw by Hendrick Vermeulen.  He seems pretty obsessed with textures and evoking thoughts of nature - see that last dress for a prime example.

Winter Luxe

Oh me, oh my. Look at that emerald green elbow-patched wool jumper.  Doesn't it look delicious? And warm? And comfortable? (Please say yes, there's no going back now...)

Phew!  Glad you agree!  It's sitting in my cupboard waiting to be worn.

Country Road & Trenery Winter collections are always so much better than their warm-weather counterparts & I always get sucked in...

The sunshine and our freshly-painted (spearmint-coloured) fence were too good not to pass up on my day off.  So I managed to convince my little bro to take these shots of me looking surly, wearing a new Zimmerman top from The Archive.  It's a little different from our pattern of the month, but pretty cool, right?

Also -  the lip colour is Heat Wave by NARS (from my lust-list here).  It's a bit dry for my liking, so I dab a bit on in the middle of my lips to get more of a stained look.  The inspiration was from one of my magazines from Japan - I'll have to scan in the page one day, since it's such a good resource for Asian make-up tips.  (Although I do realise it appears as if I got punched on the cheek - probably not a good blush day).

Anyway, hopefully I will be able to drag myself off the couch and get out of the house now.  I've got some shows to see!

DIY Pom-pom trim shorts

If you hadn't already seen my latest DIY-inspiration crusade on our tumblr, then you probably wouldn't have know this project was in the pipeline since last weekend.

group-4
group-5

It was a very simple project which could be finished in 20mins or so (if you're a speedy seamstress).   So simple in fact, that I'm not even going to bother with detailed instructions.  Just get yourself to your local craft store and pick up some pom-pom trim, sew it (or glue it) onto the seam of some shorts (or a skirt or a top), et voila!

Pom-poms for everyone!!

Bag Dilemma

Due to the state of my current uni bag (which is actually only half mine, cost €9 & is yucky synthetic), I am on a search for an affordable new bag.  It needs to be hard wearing, good quality & fit enough without ruining my back.

We posted a while back here on the same dilemma, but I thought I'd so some more current research...

Screen Shot 2012-04-14 at 9.36.55 PM

Pre-Hospital Shambles

DSC_0416

I'd love to say this outfit is an illustration of my exemplary colour matching skillz, but I'd better be honest & admit that I woke up at 6.30am with a 6.53am bus to catch.

A bright cotton shirt + my wear-thrice-a-week pants + a clashing belt seemed the way to go.
Cover sleepy eyes with whacky sunnies & (rush) out the door!

Yay!  Finally you can see my favourite & super useful Ferragamo bag from T & her beau for my birthday last year.
DSC_0411
Pink cotton shirt - thrifted
Red belt - mother's
Pants & shoes- CR
Bag - Ferragamo (gift)
Sunnies - LoveCouture

T&I used to think red & pink were a radical combination, but the more I try it, the more I think they go quite nicely.  Nearly as well as the random red car goes with my red belt.
